Filip Široký

When Filip made it to Forbes' "30 under 30" in 2020, he was heralded as a "scientist, CERN." His answer to "What do you do?" back then was: "I optimize particle sources for accelerators using artificial intelligence." Now, he is a Research Partner within our crypto/web3 fund, Miton C.

"In a traditional VC, my position would probably be called an investment manager or principal. In crypto, Research Partner is used for investors more involved in technical projects and infrastructure. When my relatives ask me what I do, I say I help young technology companies grow," Filip explains.

What brought you to Miton?

I like Miton's approach to founders and their long-term investment strategy. We manage our own money and are more flexible than typical funds.

What technology fascinates you in general lately?

Zero Knowledge (ZK) cryptography. Until recently, mathematicians nicknamed it "moon math" because it was fantastic but utterly impractical. Today, however, it's one of the main technologies for scaling blockchains and preserving user data privacy in web3.

What aspect of crypto/web3 interests you the most?

Infrastructure or decentralized finance (DeFi). Currently, projects are emerging that will, in the next few years, drastically reduce costs, speed up, enhance efficiency, and make web3 accessible to all users.

Which projects are most investment-worthy for you?

Those who are just starting out and aim to become global leaders, but I also invest in seed and series A projects.

Where do you spend most of your working time?

In the office in Karlín or at international conferences.

What's the best part about being an investment manager?

Every day is different. I'm a big tech optimist and enjoy imagining and co-creating a better future.

What's the hardest part?

Knowing when to switch off.

What are your three favorite sources for staying informed about crypto?

Vitalik's blog, conferences, or white papers on new projects.

And what do you follow to stay informed about AI?

The Import AI newsletter, Two Minute Papers channel, or the NeurIPS conference.
